Had to pick between a gas mower and an electric one for my yard

Went with the electric Ryobi model after reading about the emissions difference. It's been fine for my quarter acre lot, but the battery only lasts about 40 minutes. Anyone have a good trick for dealing with longer grass when the battery dies halfway through?

Get a second battery, but keep it on the charger in your garage while you mow. Swap them when the first one dies, and you'll always have a fresh one ready to go.

That "keep it on the charger in your garage" part from @adams.linda is smart. But I always worry about leaving batteries charging unattended. Like, my garage gets super hot in the summer, and I've heard that's bad for them. Do you just leave it plugged in the whole time you're mowing, even for like an hour? I mean idk maybe it's fine, but it makes me nervous.

Actually yeah, the heat thing is a real worry. Modern chargers usually stop when the battery is full, but leaving it in a hot garage all day isn't great for the battery's health long term. I'd just plug the spare in when you start mowing, so it's only charging for that hour or so. That way it's ready when you need it but you avoid cooking it all afternoon.
