Old timer at work told me I was wasting time with constant tool offsets
He said just measure once and run if the part is within a thou, and after trying it for 2 weeks I cut 15 minutes off every setup, has anyone else found that over-checking kills your productivity?

Fifteen minutes? Man, I spent six months checking everything three times before I realized I was just scared of scrapping one part. Now I probably still scrap the same amount, I just do it faster.

That six month period sounds brutal... the fear of messing up one piece can really mess with your head. I've been there too, checking every measurement twice and still second guessing myself. It's rough when you know you're wasting time but can't stop.

My uncle Leroy used to tell me about his time building cabinets for a custom home builder back in the 90s. He swore he'd measure a single drawer front seven times before cutting. One day the boss walked up and just stood there watching him for a solid minute. He said "Leroy, that wood doesn't know you're scared of it." It became a running joke in the shop after that. Funny how a little joke can make you stop overthinking stuff.
