Took 9 years to figure out my G54 offset was the problem, not the tool

I run a Haas VF-2 at a shop outside Dayton and for years I kept chasing chatter on the same part. New holders, new inserts, even swapped the spindle bearings once. Last Tuesday a temp guy asked why my work offset was set to a corner I never used. I checked, and sure enough the G54 was off by .003 every setup because I zeroed off the wrong edge way back on my first day. The old timer who trained me never said anything, just watched me burn through tooling. Has anyone else found out a basic setup mistake was messing with them for way longer than they want to admit?

Dude that temp guy probably saved you a fortune in inserts.
