Am I the only one who spent 6 hours stuck on one line of JavaScript and then fixed it with a missing comma
Last Tuesday I was building a little to-do list app from a YouTube tutorial and my delete button just refused to work no matter what I tried. I checked the console maybe 40 times, rewrote the whole function twice, and even started a brand new file from scratch because I was sure I broke something deep. Around 9pm my roommate walked by, looked at my screen for 10 seconds, and asked if there should be a comma after the function so it did not mash two things together. One comma, that was it, six hours of my night gone because I kept reading past it. How long did your dumbest typo ever hold you up, and was it worth telling anyone about afterward?
Wasting six hours on a missing comma is rough but it happens to everyone who writes code, so it is not some rare curse. The real question is why you did not step away sooner, because staring at the same line for hours just makes your brain skip right over the bug. A five minute break or reading the code out loud would have saved you most of that night. Calling it your dumbest typo ever seems like a stretch too, since commas are sneaky and even people who have coded for years miss them. Your roommate catching it in ten seconds is the funny part, not the six hours.
