Frothed oat milk for the first time and it split worse than my last relationship
I’ve been doing pour overs for like 5 years now, but I never messed with milk until last week when my sister left her cheap frother at my place in Portland. I grabbed some oat milk from the fridge, nuked it for about 30 seconds, and hit the frother button. Big mistake. It turned into this weird foamy sludge with clear liquid pooling at the bottom, looked like curdled gravy. Turns out oat milk needs to be cold and you have to go slow with the wand, not blast it like dairy. I watched a 4 minute video from some barista in Chicago and tried again with the same carton, worked perfect, smooth microfoam and everything. So I learned my lesson: don’t assume your oat milk behaves like cow milk just because it’s in the same fridge. Anyone else blow up their first oat milk latte or am I just the slow one here?

Gonna disagree with you here, I've had great luck heating oat milk first. Maybe it's the brand or the frother, but I nuke mine for like 45 seconds and it steams up perfect, never split once. Sounds like you just got a bad carton or that cheap frother is the real culprit.
