Rant: I swore off acidic roasts, but a barista explained the balance.

Now I seek out that bright flavor.

At Brewed Awakening last fall, I tried a pour-over they said was super bright. I usually go for the smoky, dark stuff so this was a big change. My first sip, I winced so hard the barista laughed at me. It took a few cups to stop tasting just sour and notice the fruity notes. Now I hunt for those acidic beans like a weird treasure hunt. I guess my taste buds needed a map to figure it out.

That barista laugh is probably a rite of passage for anyone switching from dark roast. Honestly took me a solid month of forcing it down before my brain stopped yelling "sour!" and started saying "oh, that's a blueberry." It's wild how your taste can do a full 180 like that. Now I'm the same, digging through bags of light roast like my tongue's on some weird treasure hunt. Maybe our taste buds just get lost without a GPS for a while.

Whoa, a whole month of forcing it down sounds intense! That's way longer than my own switch to lighter roasts took. Guess some taste buds really do need that extra time to find their way.
