Found out only 3 people have ever written every single X-Men book, and it broke my brain
I was killing time on a comic database site last Tuesday and fell down a rabbit hole on X-Men credits. Turns out Chris Claremont wrote Uncanny for 16 straight years, which I sort of knew, but I never clocked that he also scripted basically every spinoff and annual during that run. Then I saw that only a tiny handful of writers have ever touched every core X title, and suddenly the whole line makes sense. It's wild that one dude's voice shaped an entire era of mutants while editors just let him cook. Does anyone else think the line got way more uneven once they started spreading the books across a dozen writers?
I listened to a podcast episode about Claremont where they said he was writing like 4 or 5 X books a month at his peak and still keeping all the plot threads straight. The editors basically handed him the keys because the books sold and nobody wanted to mess with it. Once he left in 91 they split everything up and you could feel the books pulling in different directions right away.
