I used to buy single issues every Wednesday, now I wait a full month and grab the trade
Back in 2019 I was at my local shop in Sacramento every Wednesday dropping $25 to $30 on singles. I would bag and board everything and stack them in long boxes that took over my closet. Then last spring I did the math and saw I was spending almost $1,200 a year on books I read once. Now I wait for the trade paperback and pay $15 to $20 for the whole arc. The wait bothers me less than I expected. Anyone else make this switch, or do you still need the floppy on day one?
My brother did the same thing but with music gear, sold his whole pedalboard and bought one nice amp instead. He kept telling me how much money he saved and how he didn't miss the pedals at all. Then like six months later he was back at the shop buying a reverb pedal because he missed swapping stuff out mid show. I feel like the trade wait hits people the same way, some folks just need that new book smell on Wednesday or the hobby feels wrong. For me the money thing won though, I read way more now that I'm not chasing single issues.
