Overheard a guy at the comic shop say he only buys books for the art now

I was at The Dragon's Hoard in Cincinnati last week, picking up my pull list. A guy next to me told his friend, 'I don't even read the dialogue anymore, I just flip through for the splash pages.' It made me wonder if we're losing the point of the medium. A comic isn't just a gallery piece; the story and words matter just as much. Has anyone else noticed this trend, or am I just being an old crank about it?

I used to agree, but art can tell its own story.

Wait, you actually look at their social media? I saw one painter's Instagram once and it was all pictures of their cat and what they ate for lunch. How is that supposed to help me get their painting of a sad clown? It just made the whole thing feel silly.
