inI charged a client in Portland a 50% rush fee and they said yes
Why even call it a rush fee when the only rush is caused by their wait? Isn't it just a way to charge more because they know you're stuck? They could have done the work at the normal time but chose not to. What kind of service punishes you for needing it when they said it would be ready? It turns a basic job into a stressful shakedown.

inWarning: My 'good enough' injector cleaning routine was costing me power
Wait, you were just spraying carb cleaner on a 6.7 for years? That's wild, I thought everyone knew that wouldn't cut it!

inMy grandpa told me to always check the damper from the top down, not the bottom up. He was right, lol.
Remember thinking that way after my first kitchen fire. Honestly, the mess-ups taught me more than any warning ever could. Sometimes you need to see the smoke yourself to really get it. A lesson that sticks is usually one you learn the hard way.

inHeard a client call a miter joint a 'mighty joint' and it stuck with me
My grandpa was a cabinetmaker for fifty years and he called a mortise and tenon a "lock joint" every single time. He knew the right term, he just thought his name sounded stronger and more final. Sometimes the wrong word just fits the work better.
