Rant: I called my LCS guy a gatekeeper for pushing indie books, then I read one and felt like a jerk
I was at Comic Kingdom in Portland last Saturday buying my usual Batman pull when the owner handed me a random indie book and I told him to stop shoving stuff I didn't ask for, which was pretty rude of me looking back. He just shrugged and said 'read the first 6 pages, if you hate it I'll give you your money back', so I did and ended up buying the whole run on the spot. Now I'm wondering how many other books I've skipped just because they weren't from the big two, does anyone else judge books by the publisher logo before even opening them?
Funny thing is I did the same thing with movies for years, if it wasn't a big studio release I wouldn't even watch the trailer. Then a friend dragged me to some tiny theater downtown and now half my favorite flicks are weird little indie ones I never would've touched. That dude at your shop sounds like he knew exactly what he was doing.
