Spent 6 hours hunting a fake viral screenshot that turned out to be real
That screenshot of a city council member's burner account went around my Boise Facebook group last Tuesday. I spent 6 hours digging through old posts and cached pages to prove it was fake, turns out it was real and the original thread had 400 replies calling him out. The best part was a comment from someone who claimed to be his ex-neighbor with a story about his lawn flamingos. Anyone else ever waste a whole evening fact-checking something that ended up being true?

Man, come on, that's exactly the problem though. You burned 6 hours on one screenshot and got lucky it was real, but for every one of those there's ten fake ones that fool thousands of people because nobody checks anything. The lawn flamingo neighbor story is fun and all, but it proves the point, people believe whatever fits the story they already want to hear. Spending a whole evening on this stuff is a waste when the group would've moved on by Wednesday anyway.
