That one Reddit comment about "deleting the app for a week" actually worked for my social media addiction

Some random user said they break the dopamine cycle by just not opening Instagram for 7 days straight and after trying it last month I didn't even want to scroll when I reinstalled it, has anyone else got a weirdly effective trick from a comment section that stuck?

The 7 day break thing changed everything for me too. I did it with TikTok last year and by day 4 I was honestly shocked at how little I cared about opening it again. My brain just kind of reset and now I only check it once every few days without even thinking about it.

I actually had the opposite experience with Instagram last year. I tried the 7 day break and by day 5 I was literally checking my phone out of boredom every 10 minutes. It made me realize that the apps themselves aren't really the problem for me, it's more about having nothing else to do during downtime. The break just made me download some random game instead.

@averywilliams it's wild how we just swap one distraction for another (like trading a monster for a different monster).
