TIL I was totally missing the point of 'watch order' debates

I always just watched shows in release order, but a friend in Chicago pointed out that for something like the Fate series, following the visual novel's intended route makes the themes way clearer. It clicked for me after trying the 'Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works' anime first instead of the 2006 version. Has anyone else had a show make more sense after switching up the order?

My local coffee shop's new loyalty app finally got me to spend more

They switched from a paper punch card to a free app with points for every dollar, and my average order went from $4.50 to over $7 in two months. Anyone else see a small change that really boosted customer spending?

That time a duck family tried to move into my dredge pump in Oregon

We were working on a small river cleanup near Bend last spring, running a 10-inch cutterhead. I shut down for lunch and came back to find a mother mallard had built a nest RIGHT in the suction inlet, using sticks and mud. The crew had a good laugh, but it took us over an hour to gently clear it all out without hurting any eggs she'd already laid. Ever since then, I do a full visual check of the intake screen before I even think about hitting the starter. Anyone else had wildlife try to claim their equipment as a new home?

Just had to choose between finishing The Bear or starting Shogun

My wife and I had one free weekend before her travel season starts, so we had to pick one show to binge. We went with the final season of The Bear because we were already invested in the characters, and it was a great choice. The stress of the kitchen felt real, and the ending was perfect. Has anyone else had to make a tough choice between two big shows like that?

Just read that the original Leica M3 had over 2,700 individual parts, which is a wild number to think about when you're holding one.

Found that fact in a 1960s service manual I picked up at a flea market in Cincinnati last weekend, and it makes every successful CLA feel like a minor miracle.

Showerthought: A friend told me my book club questions were too obvious after our 'Project Hail Mary' chat.

She said 'You're just asking if we liked it, try asking what we'd do in Grace's place.' Now I always prep one 'what would you do' question for each meeting. Anyone else have a trick to get deeper talks going?

Tried using a cheap fountain pen ink in my bullet journal and it bled through 5 pages

I grabbed a $3 bottle of 'quick dry' ink from a craft store last week, thinking it would be fine for my daily logs. The ink soaked right through my 120gsm notebook paper and ruined the spreads underneath. Has anyone found a truly affordable ink that doesn't ghost or bleed?

Update: That 'fast-setting' mortar mix cost me a whole afternoon and about $80 in wasted material.

I rushed a small garden wall repair because the bag said it was ready in 30 minutes, but it went off way too fast in the sun and I had to chip out and redo the whole top course... what's your go-to mix for quick, small fixes that won't turn on you?

Rant: Bought a cheap camera for inspections and it broke after two jobs

I got a no-name inspection camera online for $150 thinking it would save me some cash. The screen went black halfway through a second floor flue check in a house on Maple Street. Had to finish the job blind and lost the fee for that day, about $200 total. What do you guys use for cameras that can handle the soot and heat?

Shoutout to the loan officer who walked me through a portfolio loan vs. a jumbo

I was trying to finance a mixed-use property in Austin and thought a jumbo was my only path. My broker compared the two, and the portfolio loan's flexible DTI calculation saved me about $400 a month. Anyone else find a niche product that solved a weird property situation?
