That viral comment about "just add an egg" to boxed cake mix actually made it worse

Saw this comment on a baking page with 50k likes saying crack an extra egg into boxed cake mix to make it taste homemade. Tried it on a Betty Crocker yellow cake for my niece's party in Cleveland last Saturday. Cake came out dense and rubbery. Nobody ate more than one bite. Learned that some viral tips are just people repeating stuff without trying it. Has anyone else fallen for a baking hack that backfired?

It's like how everyone swears by those life hacks but half of them are just lies people tell for likes.

Yeah the whole life hack thing has gotten so ridiculous. I saw one that said to use a garlic press for crushing pills and I'm like that's just a bad idea waiting to happen. The fake ones get all the attention while something actually useful like putting a wooden spoon over a boiling pot to stop it from spilling over gets buried. At this point I just assume every hack is fake until I personally test it.

Hall.nina, I actually love those ridiculous life hacks. Half the fun is trying them and watching them fail spectacularly. Makes for way better content than the boring ones that actually work.
