Charging lithium ion batteries... apparently stopping at 80% actually matters

You ever forget you're charging and then look down and it's been sitting at 100% for like three hours? I killed an old tablet that way, battery went to crap after a year. Now I just use a cheap timer plug from the hardware store, cost me like 8 bucks. Not as fancy as a smart plug but same result.

Started doing this about a year ago after my phone battery started dying way too fast. I use a smart plug that turns off at 80 percent and it makes a real difference. My current phone is two years old and still holds a charge like it was new. The heat from charging to 100 percent is what really wears the battery down over time. Plus keeping it in that 20-80 range stops the battery from degrading as fast. It's a small habit but pays off if you plan on keeping your phone for a few years.
