Thought thermal paste was just hype until I saw a 15C drop on an old i5-4670k last week
Always figured the stock stuff was fine, but my buddy insisted I try some Arctic MX-4. Did a stress test before and after, and the temp difference was wild. Has anyone else seen that big of a change from just repasting?

My Phenom II build actually hit 60C idle before I repasted it lol. @joseph_torres that space heater comparison is too real. The thing is though, Arctic MX-4 is good but it's not magic paste. That 15C drop you saw probably wasn't just the paste itself. You likely had an old dried out application that was basically doing nothing anymore. Fresh paste will always help but that big a difference means your old stuff was toast.

Had a similar moment when I finally swapped out the stock paste on my old Phenom II build. Felt like I'd been running a space heater for years without knowing it.
