Three years ago in Tampa, a client insisted on a broom finish for a big patio in direct sun.

We told them it would be too slick when wet, but they signed a waiver and we did it. Last week, I heard they slipped and fell during a rainstorm and are now trying to sue the company. When a customer ignores your safety advice, how do you protect yourself?

Waivers don't stop lawsuits, they just give you a fighting chance in court.

Yeah that "fighting chance in court" line from @kaid59 is spot on. It's like how companies use those long terms of service agreements everyone just clicks through. They know you won't read it, but having it there gives them a legal shield if things go wrong. It feels like most official paperwork is just there to cover someone's back, not to actually inform or protect regular people.

Yeah, that "legal shield" idea is why we film the client reading the waiver out loud now.
