A client told me my blowouts looked 'too perfect' and it bugged me at first

So I've been doing hair for about 8 years, and last summer a regular named Mrs. Patterson looked in the mirror after a blowout and said, 'Honey, it's lovely, but it looks like you glued it down. Can you make it move more?' I was a little offended at first, but I took a step back and realized she was right. I was using too much product and holding the dryer too close to the scalp, which flattened out all the natural volume. Now I switch to a cooler shot at the end and use only a dime-size drop of primer, and my bookings went up by about 20% in three months. Has anyone else gotten feedback that sounded like a complaint but actually helped them level up?

It's funny how the best feedback often stings at first because it hits something we already kind of knew. Happens all the time in regular life too like when someone points out you're always late or talk too fast, and you get defensive before realizing they're right. That little moment of ego bruising usually leads to the biggest improvement if you can swallow your pride and actually listen.

Too perfect" is actually a huge compliment in disguise.

Yeah wait till they say your work looks "familiar" and you realize you're just copying without noticing.
