Wasted $40 on that viral hair oil everyone swore by

Used it twice and my scalp broke out in bumps. Had to buy a clarifying shampoo just to fix the mess. Anyone else have a product that wrecked their routine?

Bought into that same pumpkin seed oil hype a few months back and ended up with an itchy, flaky mess that looked like I had dandruff from hell. My scalp got all these tiny red bumps that would not stop itching, and I spent another $15 on a charcoal scrub just to get back to normal. It's wild how they'll swear up and down it's pure and natural but then you flip the bottle and see fragrance and a bunch of other junk listed. I swear half these viral products are just expensive experiments for the rest of us.

Oh honey, that's exactly what happened to me with that pumpkin seed hair oil that was all over Instagram. I figured it would be gentle since it was natural and all, but my scalp turned bright red and felt like it was on fire after the second application. Took me a full week of using a gentle dandruff shampoo just to calm things down. These influencers never mention that some of those oils can really irritate your scalp if it's sensitive.

These influencers never mention that some of those oils can really irritate your scalp" - yeah, that's because they're getting paid to hype it up, not to give you warnings. But honestly, I gotta call out something here: pumpkin seed oil is actually known for being non-comedogenic and pretty gentle, so your reaction might not be from the oil itself. A lot of times it's whatever else is mixed in with it, like fragrances or carrier oils that don't agree with your skin. I've had clients come in with the same problem using "natural" hair products, and it usually ends up being some random additive they didn't check for on the label. Still sucks you had to deal with that though, nothing worse than a scalp that's mad at you.
