Am I the only one who thinks using the load chart app on your phone is asking for trouble?
A guy on my crew last Tuesday in Baton Rouge pulled out his phone to check a pick instead of the laminated chart in the cab, and our foreman just about lost it. Half the new guys say the app updates faster than the paper charts, but I keep thinking about what happens when that battery dies mid-lift. Where do you all land on this?
The real question is what does the app say the chart doesn't. Like are these guys actually getting different numbers or are they just too lazy to walk back to the cab? Because if the app is pulling from the same manufacturer data then fine, but if it's some third party thing that "updates faster" then who is updating it and where are they getting their numbers from? That part is what would keep me up at night, not just the battery. A phone dies, you grab a spare or plug it in, no big deal. But if the numbers themselves are wrong you don't find out until the load is already in the air.
