Found a crazy stat about crane accidents in an old OSHA report

I was looking up some old safety rules online and found a 2018 OSHA report. It said nearly 30% of crane related deaths happen during assembly or disassembly. I always figured the big lifts were the risky part, not putting the thing together. That number really stuck with me. Do you guys focus extra on setup and takedown procedures at your sites?

Actually, the OSHA stat is from 2018 but it's still pretty much the same. I just checked their latest stuff and it's still around 30% for assembly and disassembly. It's wild how that hasn't changed. Makes you wonder if the message about setup safety is really getting through.

Wow, that reminds me of a time we had a close call during a simple ladder setup!

A buddy of mine was a rigger and he saw a crew get lazy during a teardown. They skipped a couple pins on a mast section, thinking it was fine for just a minute. The whole thing shifted and nearly crushed a guy. He said the look on their faces was pure terror. It made him a total stickler for the step by step checklist after that. The boring setup work is where a lot of folks let their guard down.
