Swinging a 12,000 lb beam over a crew at the Spokane job and my LMI alarm started chirping
I froze mid swing, hand on the joystick, and realized the wind gust hit 28 mph right as the load chart said I was maxed, so I set it down slow and told the rigger we wait, so has anyone else had the alarm go off mid pick and how do you call it with the crew?
Had the same alarm go off on a 9,000 lb air handler pick last summer. Wind rolled in off the river and my chart was already tight, so I just stopped the boom and let it hang there while I walked the load down easy. Told the rigger over the radio we were holding, no debate, and he waved the guys back without me even asking. What worked for me was calling it out loud and plain on the radio so everyone on the crew heard the same thing at the same time. If the alarm is chirping, the pick is already over, and nobody on that deck is going to argue with you about it. Setting it down slow is the only move, and the crew respects you more for it, not less.
