Can we talk about the week my main character decided to go on strike

I was halfway through a draft about a detective in Chicago, and for five straight days, every scene I wrote felt flat and wrong. It turned out I had given him a backstory that made his actions in chapter four totally unbelievable. Has anyone else had a story fall apart because a character just wouldn't do what you needed them to?

My buddy ordered a custom controller last year. Took six months to get here. Showed up with the wrong buttons. He just gave up and used it anyway.

My cousin waited eight months for a custom fight stick. The artwork was upside down when it finally showed up. He just shrugged and learned to play with it like that.
