My neighbor the librarian just destroyed my whole prompt routine
I was venting to her about how every prompt I try feels like a bad first draft, and she asked me what I read before I write. I said nothing, I just pick a prompt and go. She laughed and told me that's like trying to wire a panel without checking the load first. Then she handed me a random page from an old field guide about mushrooms and said write a scene where the forest floor is the main character. I did that for 20 minutes last Tuesday and it turned into the weirdest, most alive thing I've written in years. Anybody else got a weird source of inspiration that isn't another writing prompt?
