Why does nobody talk about reading your prompt out loud before posting it?
I was about to hit submit on a 5 paragraph prompt in the library at 8pm last Tuesday when I read it out loud and caught two characters with the same name and a scene that switched from a diner to a train car for no reason, so I cut it down to one paragraph and it got 14 replies instead of the usual zero, but now I'm wondering if anyone else uses the read it out loud trick or if you all just post and pray?
My buddy Dan does this thing where he records his prompts as voice memos on his phone and plays them back while walking his dog. Last month he had a prompt with 3 characters and 2 of them were named Jack, which he never noticed until the dog walk. He said hearing it made the whole thing fall apart in a way that reading it never did. He trimmed it down, posted it, and got like 20 replies. So yeah the trick is real, your ears catch stuff your eyes just skip over.
