Blew $150 on a Crunchyroll premium subscription I barely used

I finally caved and got the mega Crunchyroll plan so I could watch simulcasts without ads. Thought I'd be binging Attack on Titan nonstop but I only watched like three episodes in two months. Guess I'm more of a seasonal watcher than I give myself credit for. Anyone else buy a subscription and immediately forget to use it?

Just hit 50 years old and I'm actually happier than I was at 25

Everyone always talks about how aging is terrible, but I hit 50 last week and it honestly caught me off guard how good I feel. People keep saying your best years are in your 20s and 30s, but I think that's just something we tell ourselves. At 25 I was stressed about student loans, trying to figure out my career, and constantly comparing myself to friends on social media. Now I've got a solid job, I know who I am, and I don't waste energy on things that don't matter. My dental hygienist career started to really click after I stopped worrying about being perfect. I had a patient last week who said I looked younger now than I did 10 years ago, and I think it's because I actually laugh more. Has anyone else found that life got better after a certain milestone age?

Finally learned what 'ghosting' means - my coworker literally vanished mid-project

Last month my teammate Jenna stopped answering Slack messages 3 days before a big deadline. I kept asking around and someone finally said 'oh she ghosted you.' I had to google it honestly. Turns out it's just a fancy word for someone disappearing without a word. Now I hear it everywhere - has anyone else noticed this term popping up in work chats a lot?

Hit 5,000 hours on one box without a single pull and it got me thinking

I was just doing a routine check on a Collins 900 something that's been flying charter out of McCarran for years and I realized I had rolled over 5,000 hours on this one unit without ever having to pull it for a bench repair. That felt like a big deal honestly because when I first started in the late 90s you were lucky to get 1,500 hours out of a nav box before something drifted. The old analog stuff just had so many more failure points and you'd be swapping cards every other month. Now with digital and solid state everything it's like these units just run and run until the airframe gives out. It's wild how much reliability has changed in just 20 years. Has anyone else noticed a specific part going way longer than you expected?

Hot take: Getting laid off from that Austin tech startup was the best career move I ever made

I got let go from a startup in Austin called TapCart back in March 2023. Two months later I started my own landscaping company and now I make more money and actually like my work. So which is better for long term career growth, sticking with a stable job you hate or getting pushed into something new? Has anyone else had a forced career change turn out better than their old path?

Used to think gatekeeping was good for comics, but a convention panel changed my mind

I was at Phoenix Fan Fusion last month and sat in on a panel about new readers. This guy stood up and said 'I got into comics through the Marvel movies and people told me I wasn't a real fan.' Hit me hard because I've been that guy rolling my eyes at people who didn't know who Romita Jr. was. Made me realize I was pushing people away from a hobby I love. Anyone else had a moment where you caught yourself being that gatekeeper?

Neighbor's feedback on my compost pile made me rethink my whole setup

She said my greens were too wet and I was just layering wrong, so after three months of trying her method of mixing in more browns like shredded cardboard I actually got usable dirt for the first time.
