I finally found my old MySpace page from 2007... yikes

I stumbled on a backup hard drive last weekend and decided to dig through it for old photos, found my entire MySpace profile saved as HTML files instead. The backgrounds were bright sparkly gifs and my top 8 list had my crush at #1 with a cringey love poem in the about me section. Has anyone else unearthed their old social media ghosts and immediately wanted to delete them forever?

The 2007 era was actually more like MySpace's peak, not the beginning of it being forgotten. I remember it hit 100 million active users around that time, so you were right in the middle of the sparkly gif golden age. But about the internet forgetting stuff, that's not really true either. The Wayback Machine has copies of so many old profiles, and people have been screenshotting and saving things for years. I found my old Friendster profile through a cached page last year and the cringe was still fully intact with zero help from me. So that hard drive might actually be doing you a favor by keeping it contained instead of letting it resurface on some random archive site in 2030.

Are you sure you want to keep those files? I deleted my old Xanga page years ago and never looked back. Those early social media profiles were basically public diaries of our worst embarrassing moments. The cringey love poems and sparkly backgrounds are proof we had zero sense of style or shame back then. Honestly, it's a good thing the internet forgets most of this stuff eventually. Just nuke the hard drive and pretend you never found it.
