Can we talk about how a 10 minute talk with my electrician changed my whole kitchen plan?
So I'm about 4 months into planning a build on a lot in Boise, and I had my electrician walk the plans with me a couple weeks ago. He just stood in the middle of the framed kitchen and asked me one thing: how many times a day do you plug in a toaster? I said maybe once. Then he pointed out I'd drawn outlets on 3 different walls but the one spot I actually stand and prep food had zero. I'd been copying a floor plan I saw online instead of thinking about how I move in a room, and that hit me hard. Same thing happened with the pantry door, I drew a 32 inch swing when a pocket door would have saved me 18 inches of walking space. It's funny how you can stare at a plan for weeks and a guy with 22 years in the trade spots the problem in 10 minutes. Has anyone else had a sub or trade person catch something in your plans that completely flipped how you were thinking about a space?
Love this so much, honestly. My husband and I went through the same thing when we built our last house, our plumber asked why I had the sink facing away from the window and I had no answer, I just copied a plan I found on Pinterest lol. He flipped the whole layout and it cost us nothing because we were still at framing stage. Those trade guys see stuff we never would sitting at a desk with a laptop.
