Paid $6k for smart glass, still pressing manual blinds every night
Back in 2021 I had electrochromic windows installed on the south side of our build near Austin, figured the auto tint would pay off in cooling costs. Three years later the control module died and the replacement quote was nearly half what I paid originally, so I just use stick on cellular shades now. Has anyone else had good luck with motorized shades instead, or is everything fancy just built to fail?

That sucks, but honestly it's the same story with most smart home stuff. The tech is cool for the first year, then the company either stops updating or the module just gives up. Motorized shades are a little better since the mechanical part is simple, but the motors still crap out eventually. The real move is just good old fashioned blinds or curtains that dont need wifi. People pay thousands to automate something a pull string does for free.
