Rant: I let my builder talk me into a 'maintenance-free' composite deck and it's a total lie.

We paid about $12,000 extra for the material, and after just two winters, it's covered in ugly black mildew spots that won't come off. I learned that 'maintenance-free' just means you can't sand or stain it, so you're stuck with whatever happens. Has anyone found a cleaner that actually works on these things?

Heard about a friend who paid a huge markup for a "premium" fridge that just looks like a regular one. She said the sales guy talked her into it by saying it had "advanced cooling technology" but honestly, it just keeps the milk cold. Makes me think of your point, @elizabethhayes, because it was like an extra eight grand for a fancy logo and a touchscreen that broke in a year. Companies really bank on people not questioning the price tag for basic stuff.

Wait, twelve thousand extra for a deck that still gets moldy?
