Why does nobody talk about ordering windows before the foundation is dug?

I used to wait until the framing stage to order windows, but that cost me 3 weeks of downtime on a build in Spokane last spring. Now I lock in window specs during the excavation phase, right after the soil test comes back. It sounds crazy to plan that far ahead, but lead times on custom sizes are running 10 to 12 weeks around here. Has anyone else shifted their ordering schedule earlier just to keep the crew moving?

Always surprises me how planning ahead saves more than just time in the long run.

Three years of renovating our old house taught me that. Every weekend we'd run out for supplies we should've grabbed Thursday night, and that added up to like four extra trips a month. The gas alone was brutal, not to mention the time we lost standing in the hardware store line. Now I make a list on Tuesday for whatever we're doing Saturday, and it's honestly calmed down our whole week. Same with meals too, actually. Just a little thought ahead keeps the whole thing from turning into chaos.
