Moved my backup strategy after a $40 flash drive died in my truck

I used to keep every customer's diagnostic notes on a single flash drive in my center console. Seemed fine for years until that thing got cooked by sitting in the sun all summer. Took 3 customer files with it, lucky none were urgent. Now I do a cloud sync every Friday plus a second drive in my work bag. My old habit of one copy was lazy. Anyone else rely on a single spot for their data and get burned?

Two dead drives in ten years means I still trust the one-copy method, honestly. That $40 loss sounds more like a warning about cheap hardware than a reason to overcomplicate things, I mean, I've had a drive in my glovebox since 2019 that's still humming along. Plus cloud syncs take time I'd rather spend on actual diagnostics, and the last thing I want is my customer files floating on some server I don't control. I'll take my chances with a single drive and a backup on my laptop every other week, that's been plenty for me so far.
