Called the mods out for fake deletes, turned out the receipts were real

I used to think half the screenshots on this sub were staged for attention. Like the famous deleted post about the couple that found a burner phone in their Airbnb, I swore it was a creative writing exercise. Then last Tuesday I found a deleted thread from 2021 about a local Nashville landlord doxxing a tenant, and the Reddit archive site had every edit timestamp and mod log attached. I dug for about 2 hours into the original user's post history, and their story about the eviction matched public court records from Davidson County. That flipped my whole view on how much detective work actually goes into verifying these posts. Has anyone else run a deep check on a viral deletion and come out the other side believing it was 100% legit?

Funny how easy it is to fool yourself when you already want the story to be true. Those archive sites can be edited by anyone with a bit of tech know how, and court records aren't that hard to find for a determined troll. The whole Nashville thing reads like a classic confirmation bias loop, you looked for proof until you found something that sort of matched, then called it a day. Real detective work means questioning every timestamp and asking why someone would keep such a perfect paper trail on a public forum. Most people don't document their own drama that cleanly, that's usually a sign it's built for the audience. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd bet a good chunk of those "verified" posts are just better at faking the details than the ones you caught before.
