Found a deleted confessional post about fake charity runs in Portland
Scrolling through a mirror site archive yesterday and stumbled on a deleted post from a local runner group. Someone admitted they faked their marathon time for a charity sponsorship, raised $2,300, then donated zero. The post vanished within 4 hours because the mods got threats. Wild part, they named the exact event and date. Has anyone else dug up deleted posts that exposed something bigger than the original drama?
Found a whole rabbit hole of this stuff when I was bored one night, and yeah, deleted posts almost always hide way more than the thing that got them deleted. I remember a case where someone on a buy/sell page admitted to scamming like fifteen people, and the post got nuked in an hour, but not before people saved screenshots. The mods deleting stuff fast is usually a tell that someone with money or power got scared. It is not even the fake charity thing that bugs me most, it is that people threatened the mods over it. That means somebody real was about to get caught. Screenshots are forever, so that runner is probably cooked whether they like it or not.
