Theatrical cut ruined a character arc, one deleted scene fixed it for me
I watched the director's cut of a 2019 thriller on streaming and there's this 3 minute scene where the villain explains why he spares the protagonist. In the theaters that motivation was totally missing so he just looked like a plot device. Has anyone else had a single deleted scene completely change their take on a movie?

Geez, that's like finding out the burger was actually good the whole time, you just never got the secret sauce!
I swear, some studios cut the exact scene that makes the whole puzzle click. It's like they're allergic to letting the bad guy have a single reasonable thought. My favorite is when the deleted scene is literally the climax of the character's whole deal and they leave it on the cutting room floor for a 30 second explosion instead.
That's the "we don't trust the audience" special right there. But hey, at least streaming lets us fix their mistakes from our couch. I just wish they'd label those versions as "the one that actually makes sense" on the menu.
