Swapped my air compressor filter schedule and stopped chasing my tail

For three years I changed the air dryer cartridge every 6 months like the manual said, but kept finding moisture in the tanks. A guy from a fleet shop in Lubbock told me to pull the purge valve and check the desiccant color instead, and sure enough it was toast at 4 months with our humidity. I switched to a 100-hour inspection routine with a cheap moisture indicator strip, and my brake jobs stopped getting that nasty rust speckle. Anyone else ditch the book intervals and go by actual condition? What's your trigger point for swapping filters?

Moisture indicator strips are the way to go for sure. I do the same check every Friday before I pull the compressor in for the weekend, saves a ton of guessing.
