Tried reusing old injector cups on a 6.0 Powerstroke and it backfired hard
I figured I'd save $40 by cleaning and reusing the injector cups on a buddy's 2006 F-350 last month. Truck ran rough for three days before one started leaking fuel into the coolant. Has anyone else had better luck just buying new cups every time?

Man that sucks... hate to hear it. Had almost the exact same thing happen on my '04 6.0 a couple years back. Cleaned the cups real good with some brake cleaner and a wire brush, looked fine going in, but after about a week started getting that sweet smell in the degas bottle. Ended up pulling the whole top end apart again to replace them with new ones anyway, plus all the oil and coolant. Ended up costing way more in time and parts than just buying new cups from the start.

Learned that lesson the hard way myself a few years back. Tried saving $40 on a set of injector cups for my '05 and ended up spending $600 on new injectors when a cup cracked and sent metal through the whole fuel system. My wallet still hasn't forgiven me for that one. Now I just buy new cups every time, it saves the headache of pulling the top end apart twice. That sweet smell in the degas bottle is the worst, feels like you're getting beaten with a stick for trying to be cheap.
