Found out most museum archives only show 5% of their collections online
I was looking up how galleries decide what to exhibit and stumbled into a stat from a MET digital collections report. Apparently only somewhere around 5% of what they own is actually digitized and up for viewing. I thought museums had been scanning everything for years but the costs and time to do it right are brutal. It makes me wonder about all the hidden stuff sitting in storage that we will never see. Has anyone here had work submitted to a digital archive that ended up buried in the backend for ages?
