Found out my 'authentic' medieval font was actually from a 90s video game

I was showing off my new fantasy map in a showcase Discord and someone zoomed in on the text, then casually dropped that the font was ripped straight from Diablo II. Checked the creator's page and yeah, zero credit given, which kinda ruined the whole vibe for me. Has anyone else had a font or asset you loved turn out to be totally not what you thought?

Blew $80 on a fancy brush pack that made my art look WORSE

I saw this big set of Procreate brushes advertised as 'professional grade' and paid $80 for it. Thought it would help me get that polished look I see in other artists' work. Instead, every stroke came out too textured and messy, like the brushes were fighting against my style. I ended up going back to the default round brush that came with the app for free. Has anyone else wasted money on a brush set that just didn't work for how you paint?

Found out that 90% of my digital art views happen in the first 6 hours after posting

I was checking my stats on ArtStation the other day and stumbled on this weird fact. Turns out almost all the eyes on my pieces come flooding in right after I upload them. After that first evening, it drops off to like nobody looking at all. I guess the algorithm just buries stuff unless it blows up immediately. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with their own uploads?

Had a chat with a kid at the gallery who made me rethink my whole style

So I was at a local showcase last weekend and this teenager asked why I always blend my colors so smooth. She said she liked the rough sketchy looks better because they felt more alive. I mean I've been doing smooth digital painting for like 5 years and never even thought about it. Now I'm messing around with leaving my brush strokes visible and idk it's kind of freeing. That tip about using pure white backgrounds for portfolio shots cost me a client

An old photographer buddy told me to always use pure white backgrounds for my digital art showcase images. He said it makes the work pop the most across all screens. I spent 3 days re-rendering my whole portfolio that way and sent it to a gallery curator in Portland. She replied saying the white was washing out my color grading and asked if I had the original versions instead. Has anyone else gotten burned by advice that sounded good but didn't fit their style?

At the Dongdaemun design plaza last month, an artist whipped out a full cityscape in 20 minutes using tilt controls while I'm still masking layer 37, so does anyone actually prefer flat tablets over these 3D screens for speed?

Last month I finished 3 portrait commissions on my Wacom Cintiq and then switched to an iPad Pro for 3 more, and honestly the iPad feels faster for sketching but the Wacom still wins for precision shading, so which do you guys think is better for realistic digital art showcase pieces?

That $200 drawing tablet I got died after 3 months

Bought this Huion tablet back in July cause my Wacom was getting old. Worked fine for like 10 weeks then the pen just stopped registering pressure completely. Tried reinstalling drivers and messing with the settings for about 2 hours but nothing fixed it. Ended up having to send it back for a replacement which took 2 weeks to ship. Anybody else had a tablet just give up on them like that?

One comment about my shading totally changed how I paint faces

I've been posting my digital portraits in this group for maybe 6 months now. Last week someone said my shadows were all too warm and I should try cooling them down near the edges of the face. I always just used a darker version of the skin color and called it done. So I gave it a shot on my latest piece, a portrait of my sister from a photo we took at the beach. I pulled in a desaturated blue-purple for the core shadows and kept the midtones warmer. The jawline and nose shadows actually look like they sit on the skin now instead of being painted on top. It took me like 3 tries to not overdo it but the final result has way more depth. Has anyone else gotten that one tiny piece of feedback that made a huge difference in their workflow?

I kept fighting with muddy shadows on my portraits for like 6 months. Finally tried using a soft light layer at 30% opacity over a grey base and suddenly the colors just clicked. Spent 6 hours trying to fix a brush lag in Clip Studio Paint

I was working on a character piece last week and the brush lag was driving me crazy. Every stroke had this half second delay that made it impossible to get clean lines. I tried updating drivers, changing canvas size, even reinstalled the program once. Lost three weeks of work when my drawing tablet driver crashed mid-project

I was about 60 hours into a big illustration for a client in Portland when my tablet just stopped responding. The screen froze and the pen cursor was stuck in the corner of my display. I tried restarting the driver like I always do but nothing worked. After an hour of panic I found out a Windows update had broken the driver completely. I had to uninstall everything and roll back the update which took another two hours. By the time I got back in, my brush settings and custom palettes were all wiped because the driver reset to defaults. I didn't make my Tuesday deadline and the client had to wait until Thursday. Has anyone else had their tablet driver just nuke their workspace like that?

I was in a coffee shop in Brooklyn last Tuesday. Pen just stopped responding mid-stroke. Had to finish the shading on a character portrait using only my mouse. Client actually liked the rougher look, but I nearly had a meltdown. Anyone else had a hardware failure at the worst possible moment?

My tablet pen died mid-livestream and I had to finish with a mouse

I was in the middle of a live demo for my art showcase last Tuesday, showing how I do highlights in Procreate. Right at the MOST important part, my Apple Pencil just DIED. No warning, no low battery popup, nothing. I had to grab my old mouse and finish the whole eye detail using that clunky thing on my desk. It looked SO messy but everyone in chat thought it was hilarious. Has anyone else had their gear fail at the worst possible moment?
