Hit 100 followers on my digital art page today and I honestly did not see that coming
Posted my 100th follower milestone screenshot this morning after posting daily sketchbook pages for about 7 months straight. Most of it was junk, but a fan piece of a character from Hollow Knight got picked up by a small art share page in Toronto and that one post did more than the previous 60 combined. Still feels weird that 100 people actually want to see my messy line work. Do you all post your sketch studies or just the finished stuff?
Seven months of daily pages is no joke, most people quit around week three. I read a thing from an illustrator a while back where she said she only posts the rough stuff because the polished pieces get saved but the messy ones get replies, and that stuck with me. That Hollow Knight fan piece probably got shared because people already love the character, so your line work just had to ride along with that. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's how the whole thing works. I post both, but the studies are the ones where people actually talk to me in the comments.
