I finally tried that $30 brush pack everyone swears by, total waste for lineart
Picked up a 12 piece set from a sale last Tuesday after three different artists kept raving about the control. The bristles fall apart by the third wash and the handles feel cheap in a way my old synthetic ones never did. It works fine for blobby shading but anyone doing fine linework will fight the tip every stroke. What budget brushes have actually held up for you folks, or is this just the norm under $50?
Oh man, that bristle shedding thing is such a red flag because it usually means they glued the tufts instead of crimping the ferrule, so the hairs just pull loose once water gets in. If a brush can't survive three washes without losing hair, it was never gonna hold a point for lineart anyway. That's why the cheap sets all get hyped by the same folks doing loose painterly stuff, where a floppy tip doesn't matter much.
