Rant: My Lisbon apartment had the worst internet for three days straight last week.

I had to hotspot from my phone and work from a tiny park bench, which made me realize I need a real backup plan before my next stop in Belgrade.

Ever try one of those local eSIM apps like Airalo? I got stuck in Madrid with a dead router and downloaded one right from the park. Had a data plan going in like two minutes, way more stable than my phone's roaming. It saved my butt for a few days until the landlord fixed the line.

My friend in Porto dealt with that for a whole month last year. It's the worst feeling when your work just stops like that. A portable wifi device might be a good backup, they're pretty cheap now. I'd get that sorted before Belgrade for sure, their infrastructure can be hit or miss too. Relying on a phone hotspot is way too stressful.

Actually found the mobile data in Belgrade to be surprisingly solid last time I was there. Got a local SIM at the airport and it worked better than my home internet. The portable wifi is a good idea for backup, but you might not need it as much as you think.
