Talk with my dad about caulking cheap bathrooms

He told me a $5 tube of caulk fails faster than a $12 one. Said he's seen tubs mold in 4 months. Anyone else notice this with cheap silicone?

Wait, your dad is out here dropping wisdom about caulk like it's a life or death situation? I feel like he's got a point though, I bought the cheapo stuff from the hardware store once and my shower looked like a science experiment gone wrong within a few months. That mold was spreading faster than gossip at a family reunion. Meanwhile the good stuff I grabbed for like $10 is still holding up after a year and I barely even cleaned it. Guess you really do get what you pay for when you're trying to keep water from creeping into your walls.

I read somewhere that the cheap stuff shrinks as it cures too, which is basically an invitation for water to sneak in behind it. Your dad's definitely onto something, that $10 tube pays for itself in saved headaches (and avoided mold scraping).
