Almost lost a whole set of blueprints when my coffee mug tipped over on the drafting table
I was working on a commercial HVAC layout at my desk in Portland last Thursday and my coffee spilled right across the vellum, but I grabbed a roll of paper towels and dabbed it up fast enough that only one duct run got smudged, so now I keep my mug on a separate side table and it has saved me three times since.

Funny how one near miss makes you rethink everything. I swear most of my life lessons come from almost messing up big time, not from actually messing up.

Agree so hard with this @felixlee. It's like your brain finally wakes up and pays attention when it's that close to a disaster, not when things are going fine. I've found that the lessons that actually stick with me are the ones where I barely dodged the bullet, not the ones where I actually hit the target. There's something about the adrenaline of the almost-wreck that makes you really sit up and take note, you know? You start noticing all the little warning signs you ignored before that almost got you in trouble.
