Old job files from 2004 taught me more than any tutorial
Last week I dug up a set of floor plans I drafted back in 2004 for a strip mall in Reno. The layers were a mess and I used some wild hatch patterns, but the dimensions all checked out and the notes were clear. My current CAD work is cleaner, but that old file showed me how much time proper naming saves when you reopen something after 6 months. Anyone else ever pull up ancient drafts and spot habits you wish you had kept or dumped?
Old files mostly trick you into thinking you were smarter back then. That 2004 drawing feels great because you only remember the good parts, not the hours you wasted hunting for that one wall layer named "A-WALL-NEW-COPY2-FINAL." Clean naming and tidy layers are nice, but half the stuff people swear by in old drafts is just habit dressed up as wisdom. Plenty of ancient files are a total mess with bad notes, and the fact that yours held up after 20 years might say more about luck than skill.
