Swapped manual dimension checks for a digital caliper and it cut my rework in half

After 7 years of using a steel ruler on site plans, I finally bought a $40 Mitutoyo digital caliper last month and now I catch .005 inch errors before they hit the laser cutter - anyone else still fighting old habits?

Ditch the digital caliper for a week and go back to the steel ruler just to see how much time you actually save. How many parts do you usually check before you catch that .005 error with the ruler versus the caliper?

I used to be the guy who swore by the ruler, thought digital was just a crutch for people who couldn't read a scale. Honestly, I felt pretty smug about it for years. But then I borrowed a buddy's caliper for a tricky job, and it changed my whole mind on this stuff. You don't realize how much you're guessing with your eye until you see that .005 difference right there on the screen. Now I catch little errors I would have totally missed or just blamed on the material, and it saves my time and my scrap bin in a big way.
