Swore by digital layers until a mismatch cost me a whole afternoon

I was laying out a commercial HVAC duct run in AutoCAD last Tuesday and had my supply and return ducts on separate layers like always, but I forgot to lock the return layer before snapping a line. The whole assembly ended up with a 3-inch gap at the main trunk because I snapped to the wrong layer's endpoint without noticing until the fabricator called. Has anyone else had a layer visibility mistake that snowballed into a re-draw?

Have you checked if your layer properties got corrupted during an autosave? That's what actually bit me once, the layers looked right but the settings had flipped.

Ngl that whole "looks fine but is broken" thing is like a universal curse. I feel like it happens way too often in everyday life too, not just with design software. Like you'll spend an hour arranging your fridge and everything looks perfect, but then you realize you put the milk in the wrong spot and it's already sour. Or you clean your whole kitchen counters and then notice a whole smudge you missed. It's like our brains just decide things are done when they're not.
