Got ratio'd by a burner account for the first time, did the slow reply thing and it worked?

So last Tuesday I posted a screenshot of this micro influencer who was clearly buying followers. Nothing wild, just pointing out the math. Then this burner with like 12 followers comes at me with the nastiest comment, calling me obsessed and saying I should mind my own business. My first instinct was to fire back immediately, but I waited like 4 hours. By then people had already piled on the burner and the thread kind of flipped in my favor. It felt kinda cheap but the slow response killed the momentum. Has anyone else tried just... waiting instead of defending yourself? Does it actually work long term or did I get lucky?
