Doubled down on the vanlife thing after 2 years of doubt, it finally clicked
Honestly, I spent 2 years thinking every van conversion video was just people showing off a tiny kitchen and a foam mattress. Then I took a 4 week trip through Colorado and realized what the hype was about, my setup is basic but the freedom to pull over anywhere is real. Is anyone else stuck between loving the idea and hating the upkeep, or did something specific make you flip?

That "freedom to pull over anywhere" line is exactly what got me too. I fought my van for two years, mostly because I kept comparing it to everyone's glossy builds online. What finally flipped it for me was realizing upkeep is just part of the deal, like owning a house you can move. I now keep a simple checklist, water tank, battery, tire pressure, and I check them every Sunday morning before I go anywhere. It sounds boring, but it kills most of the stress before it starts. Also, I stopped trying to make it look like a Pinterest board and just accepted the foam mattress situation. Once I did that, the leaks and minor weird smells became way easier to laugh off.
